Battery advice • Before you call
What information do I need when buying a car battery?
Before calling about a replacement car battery, have your vehicle’s make, model, year and engine details ready. A readable photograph of the existing battery label can also help your local B-Line Auto team check the options. Confirm suitability, price and availability before travelling.
Your battery enquiry checklist
- Vehicle details: make, model, year, engine and fuel type. Have your registration or VIN available if the team needs it to clarify the vehicle.
- Existing battery: note the brand and battery code, or take a photograph if the label is safely accessible. You do not need to remove the battery to enquire.
- Stop-start system: tell us whether the engine switches off automatically when stopped in traffic, and mention any AGM or EFB marking on the battery.
- How you use the vehicle: mention frequent short trips, long periods parked, or accessories that need power.
- Your preferred store: tell us where you would like to collect and when you need the battery.
Why the vehicle details matter
A battery needs to suit the vehicle’s requirements, including its physical size, terminal arrangement and specified performance. An existing battery label is a useful starting point, but it does not replace checking the correct application. Follow the vehicle manufacturer’s specifications.
Start-stop vehicles can have particular battery requirements. Tell the team about your system rather than choosing a replacement on price or appearance alone.
Check availability before you travel

Common questions
Can I enquire if I do not know the battery code?
Yes. Start with the vehicle details you have and ask what else is needed to identify a suitable replacement.
Does a flat battery always mean I need a new one?
No. Tell the team what has happened rather than assuming a replacement will solve the problem. Repeated starting or charging problems may need assessment by a qualified automotive technician.
Do you provide mobile fitting or home delivery?
This service is for purchasing and collecting from a store. We do not provide residential battery delivery or installation. Account customers can ask their branch about regular trade delivery arrangements.
